SAGE Art Project

Welcome!

Welcome to the studio of TheFactorium.ART

What is SAGE? SAGE is an acronym for Street Art Gallery Exhibits. It is where we bring not the people to the gallery, but the gallery to the people. But, like gallery artwork, SAGE artwork is framed and hung for display for passersby to view and appreciate.

/sage/
Adjective
"Virtuous and wise through reflection and experience."

Sage advice, sage art. Cut from the same cloth, from the same canvas. It is where art imitates life and life imitates art through its reflection and experience. In the process, imparting wisdom, making us wiser.

— DJ Abrams

SAGE-like street gallery artwork is rare, even in the hungry urban art scene. It is as if you were viewing the artwork in an art gallery. When artwork like this pops up, it often draws crowds. Not just to the artwork, but to the community where it is "hung." It is a win-win for all: the community where it is displayed, the artist, and the observer. Not aware of anything like this in Vancouver. Instead of bringing art fanciers to the gallery, take the gallery to the people. Art is not about the artist; it is about the subject and the eyes laid upon it. Vancouver is coming of age as a metropolitan and cosmopolitan city, with an artistic vision speaking to and for all of us. To bring us all together to share our differences and similarities. Art can be the great uniter.

SAGE will be segmented into Galleries, with each Gallery representing a neighbourhood or community. Each Gallery segmented into street art exhibits. Not grouped as one in a cluster, but displayed in different locations to capture life in microcosm moments of the community. A way to connect and reconnect with the community: with those who lived in the community once upon a time, and those who call it home today. And thereby, speaking to the zeitgeist of a community or neighbourhood. It's historical and present prevailing attitudes, beliefs, and ideas to paint a picture and capture the essence of what it was and what it is now. And its path forward.

Thereby, inspiring its residents to rediscover their community, and visitors to discover their community through exploring SAGE art exhibits in the community Gallery. Then other communities return the favour to share their community Gallery with others, including those they discovered.

"Manus Manum Lavat" [in Latin]
"One hand washes the other (and both wash the face)" [in English]
Seneca the Younger, 5 BC - 65 AD
A community-guided walking tour to allow onlookers to fully take everything in would sweeten the pot, but that would be up to the discretion of the community. SAGE could be a tool they could use. Bringing us all together under the umbrella of one community.

We have selected a neighbourhood as our first SAGE Gallery. We will make an announcement when we have "hung" our first art exhibit: location and photos. But with each exhibit, we encourage people to visit to see it for themselves. So, stay tuned. It is a work in progress. A lot of 'moving parts' are involved. We are very excited about SAGE and our up-and-coming first SAGE Gallery and art exhibit!
