SAGE Art Project
Welcome!
Welcome to the studio of

What is SAGE? SAGE is an acronym for
Street
Art
Gallery
Exhibits. It is where we bring not the people to the
gallery, but the gallery to the people. But, like gallery artwork, SAGE artwork is framed and hung for display for passersby to view
and appreciate.
/sage/
Adjective
"Virtuous and wise through reflection and experience."
Sage advice, sage art. Cut from the same cloth, same canvas, where art imitates life and life imitates art through
its reflection and experience. In the process, imparting wisdom, making us wiser.
— DJ Abrams
SAGE-like street gallery artwork is very rare, even in the hungry urban art scene. It is as if you were viewing the artwork in an art gallery.
When artwork like this pops up, it often draws crowds. Not just to the artwork, but to the community where it is "hung." It is a win-win
for all: the community whers it is displayed, the artist, and the observer. Not aware of anything like this in Vancouver. Instead of
bringing art fanciers to the gallery, take the gallery to the people. Art is not about the artist; it is about the subject and the eyes
laid upon it. Vancouver is coming of age as a metropolitan and cosmopolitan city, with an artistic vision speaking for all of us. To bring
us all together to share our differences and similarities. Art can be the great uniter.
SAGE will be segmented into projects: Galleries. Each Gallery speaks to the zeitgeist of a community or neighbourhood.
It's historical and present prevailing attitudes, beliefs, and ideas to capture the essence of what it was and what it is now. To paint a
picture that describes the present day and how it has evolved. In each Gallery, there will be street art exhibits. Not grouped as one in a
cluster, but displayed in different locations to capture life in a moment of a microcosm of the community. Thereby, inspiring its residents
and visitors to explore and discover the other SAGE art exhibits. A way to connect and reconnect with the community: with those who lived
in the community once upon a time, and those who call it home today. A community-guided walking tour to allow onlookers to fully take
everything in would sweeten the pot, but that would be up to the discretion of the community. SAGE is a tool they can use.
We have selected a neighbourhood as our first SAGE Gallery. We will make an announcement when we have "hung" our first art exhibit:
location and photos. But with each exhibit, we encourage people to visit to see it for themselves. So, stay tuned. It is a work in progress.
A lot of 'moving parts' are involved. We are very excited about SAGE and our up-and-coming first SAGE art exhibit!
